Masthead PSU Power Supplies Explained

A Masthead Amplifier is a Television Aerial Amplifier that is often fitted outside next to the TV Aerial.

The Masthead Amplifier requires power which is often 12V 100mA but can vary to 300mA depending on the brand.

As the external amplifier requires powering a Masthead PSU is a little power supply unit that will usually sit behind your Television and is plugged into the wall socket. This sends the required voltage up the coaxal cable to the aerial to power the amplifier.

Many people do not realise that the little box behind the TV is actually just powering the amplifier on the roof and assume that it’s the amplifier in its own right and when they move home take it with them.
