German Satellite TV Channels to Switch off SD Channels in 2025
German Satellite TV Channel ARD will cease SD (Standard Definition) broadcasts from the Astra 1 Satellite from the 7th of January 2025.
After the 7th of January ARD and Das Erste will only be available to view with HD (High Definition) Satellite Receivers such as the Technisat S6 receiver. In most cases it will not be necessary to change the Satellite Dish or LNB but just a simple case of replacing the Satellite Receiver.
As well as ARD and Das Erste later in the year ZDF, ZDFinfo, ZDFneo, 3sat and KiKA will also cease to transmit in SD and will only be available in High Definition with a suitable HD Satellite Receiver.
It is expected that the German HD Channels will continue to transmit from the Astra 1 Satellite for a further 15 Years.
Any users using a Standard Definition Satellite Receivers to view German TV channels will simply be unable to view channels such as ARD Das Erste ZDF 3sat ect after the switch off and find that the German Channels no longer work.
For a replacement receiver we recommend the excellent Technisat Technistar S6 Receiver as a replacement for German Satellite TV Channels.
As it’s a German made receiver for a German market it is built to very high standards and favours the German TV channels at the beginning of the Channel List and has an Excellent EPG.
